Welcome back to school, and welcome to Mrs. Fielding's class blog! I am really glad to have you as a part of my class! On this blog you will find updates on what we have been doing in class, as well as photographs of things you as students have accomplished during the semester.

Miss Eva joined both my Adult Roles class and my Child Development class. She was very fun to have in class, and gave a great presentation in Adult Roles comparing the roles of parents in Korea vs. America. The students had a great time!

In Child Development, Miss Eva along with Mr. Brad, Miss Sophie, and Miss Kate answered spontanious questions regarding parenting in Korea. We had originally planned this to take 15 minutes, but the students had such great questions and the interns had such great answers this ended up lasting the entire class period! It was wonderful and well worth the time! ;)

Miss Joy joined our Child Development class. She was also a joy to have around, and was very eager to help and participate. They will all be greatly missed, but we know they will move on and do very well in their student teaching this spring in Korea. Good Luck, and let's keep in touch!

PARADE OF HOMES

The Interior Design students have the opportunity to travel to the Parade of Homes this year! It should be a lot of fun! Watch for picture updates!Attention: Permission forms and payment receipt ($11.50) from the finance office are due on Friday FEBRUARY 18 AT LUNCH!!!! I will be picking up the tickets during 4th period on Friday, so if I don't have a permission form and receipt by lunch I cannot pick up your ticket! PLEASE remember to bring them to me ASAP! It will be much better to have you with us than to have to stay behind and do an alternate assignment to make up the points!

~Interior Design Painting~

We have begun our Color unit in Interior Design, so guess what?? More painting! The students are currently working on painting the color wheel in this class as well, and will begin a new painting assignment in our next class. Fun stuff! Who doesn't like to paint?!

~Fashion Painting~

In Fashion we have been discussing the elements of design, but more specifically the color wheel. The students have been painting their own color wheel's by mixing together paints. They have also been creating their own fashion design using a monochromatic color scheme. They are doing a great job!

Fashion Capital Games

In Fashion Strategies, the students created a game about a Fashion Capital. There were 5 groups, and each group was assigned a different capital (Paris, Milan, Tokyo, New York, and London). Their game had to be played in 10 minutes, and give the information about the capital that the students needed for their notes. Yesterday they played each others games, and had a blast! They also learned a lot in the process.

Welcome back to a new semester at SCHS! It is a new year, bringing great opportunities. The new year provides us with a great opportunity to reflect on ourselves and our progress in life. Resolutions for the new year inspire us to move forward, better ourselves and make a difference in the lives of those around us. Let's make this semester shine by staying focused, learning from one another, and finding opportunities to have fun in the process.

Our hearts go out to those students, parents, and teachers affected by the lightning strike yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm so grateful to be a part of such a great school, where we can band together and support each other through hard times.

~EMPATHY BELLY~

Wednesday in Child Development we started talking about pregnancy. We pulled out the empathy belly after discussing discomforts of preganancy, to give the students an idea of what it feels like to be pregnant. The belly weighs in at 25 lbs, and even has a bladder pressure to simulate the pains the bladder goes through during pregnancy ;)
The students tried all sorts of things while wearing the belly, like tying their shoes, touching their toes, laying down, walking up stairs, ballet and other dance moves, and even push ups and jumping jacks! It was a great opportunity for them to get an idea of what it would be like to carry around 25 extra lbs. with them, and how hard it is to do ordinary things we do everyday. It gave them a greater respect for pregnant women and all they do.

~BABY THINK IT OVER~

In Child Development, we do the "Baby Think It Over" program. It gives the students a great opportunity to see what it's like to be a parent. These nine lucky students were in the first group to have the babies. They have the babies for two whole days, and are responsible for taking care of their baby the entire time. This includes feeding, changing diapers, rocking, burping, etc. The babies are electronic, and make real baby noises. Then the computer tells me exactly how well each baby was cared for ;) These ladies all did pretty well- though every single one of them agrees they are NOT ready to be parents!

~SPORTS AND OUTDOOR CLOTHING~

The Sports and Outdoor Clothing students have been practicing making button holes and sewing on buttons. They are doing a great job! Here are some finished samples.

We have such a great atmosphere in class- and part of the reason is due to the fact that the students are willing to teach and learn from each other. Here is a mini serger tutorial given to a couple of students by another.

~THE COLOR WHEEL~

In Fashion Strategies we have been learning about the elements of fashion design. One of those elements or "tools" used in design is color. Students learned a lot by mixing paint and creating their very own color wheel to use in class.

They also painted clothing on croquis using different tints, tones, and shades, but unfortunately all of the pictures I have of those are sideways and I can't get them to rotate! Once I figure it out I will post some.

CLOTHING 1

In Clothing 1 the students are really getting the hang of using the sewing machines-and I was able to capture several of them in action! They are all doing a great job so far creating their sewing samples-samples they create to master certain skills they will use in future projects.

They also learned how different fabrics are created, and were able to weave using paper.

The sergers are great tools for the students to use in class. They learned how to thread them as well as how to use them.

Stay tuned for pictures of upcoming projects! The next project they will be creating is a backpack, which will be followed by a pair of pj pants.

QUILTERS

This semester I have three quilting students in class. They were wonderful students in the beginning sewing classes over the past two years, so I am excited to work with them in quilting! Because they are mixed in with my beginning sewing classes, they are required to do a lot of research and work on their own. I know they are up to the challenge! I am expecting great things from them this semester.
